This and That

Our family started out 2012 with the Southern California 5K in Irvine last Saturday; and when I say my family I mean my whole family. I ran alone and my strong, buff hubby ran while pushing our double stroller with both boys in tow.

It was pretty cold that morning so we were all bundled up. Doesn’t hubby look so tough in his beanie?

Plus my amazing mother joined us. I come from a very athletic family in case you didn’t know. I used to get woken up early in the morning, thrown in the car with a bowl of cereal, and my pillow to go to my parent’s races (running and biking). Funny how I am am now doing the same thing to my boys. I guess you really do turn into your parents in the end.

We also met two of my running club friends at the race. It’s vital to have a good support system!

Everyone did fantastic in the race. I ran a personal best, my mom achieved her goal time, and afterwards we even had enough energy and breath to pose for a picture. Oh and my mom also got second place in her age group and got a medal. She’s so amazing!

But the real hero of the day was hubby. He completed the race in a great time, pushing probably a hundred pounds (boys plus the stroller), and he even got a shout out by the announcer as he came through the finish line.

I mean look at this guy. Isn’t he a stud?

We ended the race like everyone should, at Ruby’s for a well deserved breakfast! Truly a great morning.

Whew! I made it through this first week back to life, routine, and all things reality. So how did you do? Did you make it through okay? It’s always hard to get back into the swing of things after vacation, but this week felt ultra hard. I have been late everywhere and have forgotten everything. I didn’t even have any inspiration to blog this week…as you probably noticed.

Yet tomorrow it all changes. Hubby and I are running in our first 5K of the year, starting 2012 off on the right, healthy foot; and with this run I will get my brain back, my motivation back, and my groove back.

See you Monday when I will have returned to my normal self! 🙂

We are getting back into the normal routine today and it’s hard. Hubby is back to work, my son goes back to preschool, and even my son’s city class starts back today. Mornings are back to moving quickly with lots of multitasking to get us all out the door in time. It’s the 3rd day in January and the calendar is already filling up with hubby’s work appointments, school functions, and other obligations. We ….

So it’s the 2nd of January and the year is starting off fantastic.

For starters, hubby and I hit our financial goal of paying off our car loan by December 31, 2011; which means we now have NO DEBT!!! No credit cards, no loans, no extra payments, nothing! All our money is ours and all our stuff is ours; the bank doesn’t own any part of  our lives! The feeling I have is freedom, excitement, and a massive amount of joyful expectation. (If you have never thought you could be debt free I encourage you to check out Dave Ramsey at and listen to his radio show at 980 AM from 11am-2pm. Dave teaches the biblical prescriptive on money; how it’s Godly and smart not to be in debt). Read my post about Dave here.

Another reason for this great start is hubby and I have gotten healthy. We are exercising  at least three times a week, we are watching our calorie intake, (thanks to our iPhone app myfitnesspal –read my post about it here ), and only eating healthy foods. Hubby is starting 2012 twenty lbs lighter and and am starting it ten lbs lighter. We are running in our first 5K race of the year on Saturday and I know many more race will follow!

My boys are healthy, ridiculously cute, and wicked smart. My family and friends are all around supporting and loving us, and my marriage is as strong as it has ever been! In fact, we have our first date night of the year tonight. It’s all about priorities people!

I believe 2012 is going to be a fabulous and extremely blessed year for us and I pray it will be for you too!

Thank you for being apart of my life in 2011 and I hope you will join me for all the new adventures that 2012 will bring.

Happy New Year!

I am the only one in my family, the only one of my friends, and the only one that I personally know that actually enjoys writing New Year’s resolutions. I love the idea of a fresh start and making challenging goals for the new year. It’s empowering to me that with each January 1st can come a clean slate, the chance to do things different, and to better myself.

Now don’t get me wrong, I usually don’t keep 99% of my resolutions. Usually by February or March I have either forgotten about them or have completely failed in following through on them. Never-the-less it’s fun for me the think up my resolutions and try to keep them, for at least a little while.

I haven’t finalized my list yet but here is the rough outline, in no particular order:

  • Spend at least 10 mins of quite time with the LORD everyday
  • Be more thoughtful and sincere in my prayers
  • Keep up my healthy eating
  • Continue to challenge myself as a cook with new recipes and new methods
  • Run 3 times a week
  • Run a 10K
  • Run a half marathon
  • Take a family vacation
  • Save for a house
  • Get Lasik
  • Stay debt-free
  • Have mandatory date nights with hubby at least twice a month

What do you think of my resolutions thus far? How many do you think I will accomplish?

So whose with me? Join in the quest to better yourself…even if it is just for a couple months! 🙂
